Top 10 Emo Throwback Songs

The angst, the guy-liner, the ripped jeans, and over dyed hair, ya that's pretty much emo in a nutshell. The genre gets a bad rep from the media. Underneath all the black, we all know its really just a bunch of misunderstood teenagers complaining to the world. But we still love it. Everyone went through that phase of rebellion, to varying extents.

Depending on your definition of "emo", you may find some songs on this list, and others not. So if you think we missed one, let us know in the comments. To see our Honorable Mentions please go to our Top 10/Quick Picks page. Any song is fair game as long as it's at least 5 years old.

Top 10 Pop Punk Throwbacks

The genre itself is like one big throwback to our teen years. When guys wore wife-beaters and cargo shorts, everyone had too much hair gel, and Britney Spears was still relevant. It'd hard to pick just 10 songs, so if you don't see your favorite on this list let us know.

Check our honorable mentions list on the Top 10 / Quick Picks page. Any song is far game provided it's at least 5 years old.

Best of the Artist - Paramore

With infectious hooks, funky bass lines, and a front-woman with as much attitude and talent as vocalists twice her age and height, did you expect anything other than success for Paramore? Remember their humble beginnings on Warped Tour, and their rise to mainstream music stars? Paramore have been through a lot in the past ten years. And after a lot of rewrites, we've finally finished our "Top 10 Paramore Songs". It wasn't easy, but we did it.

To see our honorable mentions please go to our Best of the Artist series page. And for those of you who don't see your favorite song on this list, or feel we should have given something a higher place, we're sorry. Leave a comment and let us know if we screwed up. And for those butthurt people, we recommend you get some ice and a comfortable pillow to sit on.

Tonight Alive - "Human Interaction" Single Review

Fans of Tonight Alive have been patiently waiting for the 1st single of their highly anticipated 3rd album. Well it's finally here! "Human Interaction" was released on the band's Vevo account on Oct 30, and that's not the only good news for fans. The band also announced a headlining world tour with Set It Off in early 2015 to support their new album titled "Limitless", and gave a March 4, 2016 release date. New Politics - "Vikings" Review

Dance pop and electronic meets punk, that's New Politics in a nutshell. Previous albums from this Danish band were, well, incomplete. But their 3rd album is, for the most part, a cohesive collection of fun songs. Signing to DCD2 Records, Pete Wentz's label, has done the band a world of good. Wentz infuses some emo into the band's sound, and the band themselves have come into their own as song writers.

Quick Picks - Bands or Lineups We Wish Would Reunite

All good things must come to an end, but fans can still hope that their favorite bands or lineups will get back together. Today we countdown our picks for the bands fans wish would reunite, or go back to a previous lineup. We aren't saying these bands are better or worse because of lineup changes, but we understand why people have made certain arguments. We understand that everyone has their own opinion, so we're sorry if anyone gets butthurt. Top 10 Debut Albums (2010-2014) Pt 1

Some bands have debut records that miss the mark. Then there are bands who release debut albums so put together, and well written that we wonder where they've been hiding or entire lives. Here are some of the best debuts that were released from 2010 to 2014.
The albums aren't listed in any particular order (1 is not the top, 10 is not the bottom). Each entry is accompanied with a mini review and rating. Click the Top 10 page to see our honorable mentions for this list. Click this (link) to see Pt 2 of this list.

Please keep in mind that I'm only one person, and can only listen to so many albums before my brain explodes. If you think there's a debut that I should listen to, please contact me at platypusreviews1486@gmail.com with the band and their album (for this list the album has to have been released between 2010 and 2014).

I have excluded bands that were formed after a member's previous band broke up or bands with members who were has previous success in another group (i.e, Of Mice and Men, Beartooth, Falling in Reverse, the many, many Jonny Craig bands, etc). These are bands who are fresh off the rookie circuit, and are cutting their teeth with this release. EPs are off limits, as they are often not good representations of what a band is truly capable of (though there are always exceptions to the rule).
